Wall textures make the difference

Textures are often an under-appreciated design component; here’s a quick look-through at some of the textures we’re seeing in designs right now – please do note that this is not a ranking of the “best” textures or the “most popular” or any such measure; textures are almost uniquely contextual. What’s right in one situation may be wrong in another.

ORGANIC

This is a wide range of textures, actually – here’s just one example of an organically-themed texture. These tend not to be perfectly regular, and come in a huge variety of colors and shapes. Notice the wall at the left side of this picture of the interior of Blue Fin restaurant in Times Square.

Organic Textures

EXPOSED BRICK

This Italian/New Orleans themed accent wall can be used in a number of ways, ranging from modern to rustic, depending on the context.

NAKED WOOD

Often elevates a space by adding either a comforting or impressive touch.

GLASS

A texture that generally says “corporate” when used in traditional ways.

REFINED WOOD

Massively popularized by Joanna Gaines on HGTV’s Fixer Upper, this sort of refined take on a classic has become a popular texture in particular for rooms toned in green and white.

TEXTURED CONCRETE

Immensely modern.

These are only a few examples; there are many more possibilities!
